Erik Madigan Heck: The Garden

$90.00
sold out

Format: Hardcover

Publisher: Damiani

Measurements: 10.5 x 12.75 inches

Condition: New

Born in 1983, Erik Madigan Heck is an American photographer who captures his wife and two young sons The Garden. Heck alludes to Catholic symbols  and other spiritual visual traditions to construct a color-based narrative reminiscent of mythic archetypes and immortality.

Heck’s subjects are photographed in lavish fashion against vivid backgrounds. They’re posed in dreamlike states creating whimsical gestures. Each image compares to a surrealist painting with enhanced saturation and a composition that merges the familiar with the fantastic.

Shot primarily at the family’s home in New England, the series initially evokes comparisons with other contemporary photography capturing family life, such as Sally Mann’s Immediate Family or the work of Elinor Carucci. Although the models of Heck’s photographs are solely his family, The Garden's real subject matter is color and the aesthetic infinities of photography.
