Lost in Translation

$449.00
sold out

Format: Hardcover

Condition: Used (Very Good)

Written and directed by Sofia Coppola, Lost in Translation is an Oscar-Winning 2003 romantic comedy-drama film starring Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson. The story takes place in Tokyo following a fading American movie star battling a midlife crisis while traveling to promote a popular whisky brand. In the city, he befriends another alienated American named Charlotte, a young woman and recent college graduate.

The film surveys themes of isolation and disconnection against a backdrop of cultural displacement in Japan. Coppola also defies mainstream narrative conventions and promotes an unconventional depiction of romance in her story. She began writing the film after spending time in Tokyo and taking a liking to the city. She then started creating a story about two characters experiencing a "romantic melancholy".

This book celebrates this iconic film with memorable stills and scenes of Murray, Johansson, and a Tokyo backdrop paired alongside narrations from the screenplay’s script.
